The real beginning of the year and "Le solite Cose"
Welcome back to a new issue of Flâneries.
I have always felt that the real beginning of the year is not in January, but in September. January almost always carries the weight of grand resolutions, those somewhat forced promises that we often end up abandoning after just a few weeks.
This year, my September was preceded by days of constant movement. Over the past few weeks, my steps have taken me far away, all the way to South Africa, and then back to Europe, to Milan. Cape Town, in particular, left me with a sense of something unfinished and a strong desire to return: a single day is truly too little to fully breathe in the soul of a place.
And yet, exactly after traveling, September reveals its most authentic flavor: it is the month of homecomings, of returning to familiar rhythms and, above all, to the things of everyday life. There is a subtle, reassuring charm in this rediscovered normality. Walking the streets of Paris once again, watching the autumn light begin to shift the contours of things, returning to our daily gestures without the anxiety of having to completely revolutionize our lives. It is a gentle restart, deeply rooted in the present and in what we know well.
have dedicated my latest work precisely to this silent beauty of routine. Attached to this newsletter, you will find my new zine, which I have fittingly titled "Le solite Cose" (The Usual Things).
It is a small visual tribute to what we often take for granted because it is constantly right in front of our eyes, but which ultimately forms the very framework and essence of our days.
I hope that, as you flip through these pages, you can appreciate the tranquility of your own personal return to normality.
Happy reading and happy wandering,
Luca
